History
Ceiba was founded by four neighborhood organizations:
- Borinquen Federal Credit Union
- Centro Pedro Claver
- Esperanza
- The Norris Square Civic Association
The founders of Ceiba were leaders within their own agencies and active members of the community. They worked primarily in the areas of housing and economic development. The founders realized that their community organizations needed to work in collaboration to ensure lasting improvement in the quality of life of their neighborhoods. In 1989, this group of leaders developed a partnership and named it after one of nature’s most resilient trees.
